Post-Op day 3 and counting...

Jack has recovered great from yesterdays unexpected trip to the OR.  Brian stayed with him last night in the CICU, because he can sleep through anything (even though he only slept a couple of hours).  I went back to the hotel and got some rest.  Jack did good through the night.  He is in a lot more discomfort right now and wants to be picked up.  I got to his bedside at 6:30 am to trade off with Brian, so he can go get some sleep and do some work.  Right after I got here, the team had to give him some plasma because his clotting factors were low from being on the bypass machine.  He has some congestion in his lungs, but they are ok with it.  He needs to cough, and does at times, but it hurts him.  He is stating in the low 80s, which I don't like, but they don't seem to concerned about it.  The plan for today (as of right now) is to take out all of his lines except his drainage tubes in his chest and IV line for fluids and transport him to the step down unit.  Poor kid is finally resting right now but is just miserable.  He is not really into drinking...I just think he feels crummy!

I am hopeful that things will keep going in the right direction.  Of course, I  analyze all of his data on the computers and I ask questions every time, but everyone says it is all the way it is suppose to be for now.  So, I try to turn my brain off from what I know and relax.  Easier said then done.

  1. I was so glad to see a note from you, even though it's hard to think of Jack feeling so "crummy" or as they called it in my family "punk." In the big picture, his progress sounds good though. I wish they had a massage therapist on hand for the caregivers like you who have to try to relax amidst so much stress and concern. So here's sending you a virtual massage.

  2. So glad to hear what is going on. I am continuing to pray for all of you...specifically Jack's comfort and his acceptance of the situations. You are amazing and I am so proud of you. I understand you "turning your brain off" but remember you are the MOMMY and can ask ANYTHING that you want to! I love you and remember I'm here if you need anything!

  3. I'm so relieved Jack is improving, and I'm glad you and Brian are trying to take care of yourselves by getting some rest. Before you know it you will be in bed with Jack holding him, which may be the best medicine for him!

P.S. Check for a Child Life Specialist to see if they can come do some distraction or relaxation with him. It may be helpful fo you guys too.

  4. Heather you guys are on my heart constantly- I'm sitting here practically bawling and my heart breaks for all you have been through. Thanks be to God for all He is, has done and will do through this situation. Will continue to pray for expedited recovery with no setbacks and for peace and strength for you and Brian. Love you

  5. Heather, it is good to hear things are moving along as expected after the sponge incident. I pray that you and Brian can get some much needed rest and peace and that sweet Jack is in little pain as he continues to recover and build strength. Hang in there. God is awesome and hears our prayers!
    Love you!
